No Shave November Starting Soon

Starting November 1, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office will raise money for the Boone County Cancer Society with a “No-Shave November” campaign. 2022 marks the ninth year for the campaign.

To participate, employees who donate a minimum of $60 to the fund will be allowed to grow facial hair during the month of November. For those wishing to extend the challenge, employees will be able to do so by donating $100 for the month of December. Such grooming standards are strictly regulated by department policy but will be somewhat relaxed in support of the program.

Female employees who want to help fight the cause will be given a bracelet to show their support and/or allowed to wear pink or blue highlights in their hair. The cancer awareness bracelets will be given out upon receipt of a monetary donation.

Money can be donated to sponsor an employee to help pay for their growth!

Sheriff Nielsen stated: “I am excited once again this year to support a great cause. My life has been touched personally by cancer. In 2007 I was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Lymphoma. With the support and encouragement of my family and friends, we tackled this ugly disease head on! Today I am cancer free because of the yearlong chemo treatments and by the grace of God. It created a passion for me to help in any way that I can to support people that face this ugly disease. We all have someone we know that has been touched by cancer. By supporting No-Shave November – Santa Beard December we can help in the awareness, education, and strive for the ultimate cancer cure!”

We want to make the public aware: if you see a deputy with facial hair, remember, it’s for charity! Join us, as we raise awareness for a great cause, and reduce the stigmatism associated with physical and mental health disease. All of the proceeds go directly to the Boone County Cancer Society for educational awareness and also helps residents of Boone County who are fighting cancer.
