The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today, Monday, July 15 beginning at 1 p.m. and concluding around 8 p.m. for Clinton, Carroll and Boone counties among others across the region.
The heat advisory has been issued for Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Lawrence, Jackson and Jennings counties for today, Monday, July 15.
The service reported that portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana will experience heat index values around 105 degrees from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight. The service stated that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
The service released guidelines for the community to follow during the heat advisory, including:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
