The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region that will take effect today at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12 through 4 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 13.
The advisory states that mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations up to three inches and ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch in portions of central, east central, north central and west central Indiana.
The service stated that the snow and ice may cause roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, to become slick and hazardous. Drivers should plan for possible slippery road conditions during their afternoon commute.
The service encouraged drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state may be found by calling 5-1-1.
If traveling outside, watch steps taken on stairs, sidewalks and driveways as the surfaces may be icy and slippery, causing an increased risk of falling or injury.
