Frankfort Parks Department is excited that Phase 1 of the Tennis & Pickleball Courts at TPA Park has started. Mayor Sheets and Board of Works members had approved the bid from Crenshaw Paving during a Board of Works meeting a few months ago.
“We tried to salvage the court’s surface over the past couple of years, and soon realized we needed to start over. The tennis courts at TPA are frequently used and we want to make sure we are able to provide a safe place for both pickleball and tennis players to play,” commented Park Superintendent, Bart Kraning. The renovations will be a $174,000 investment and approved by City Council in the 2022 and 2023 budgets. $50,000 will be spent in Phase 1.
Timeline:
Phase 1 – Demolition includes removing fencing, poles, and asphalt. It is expected to be completed by the end of December.
Phase 2 – Once the weather breaks in the spring, crews will begin working on leveling the ground for new asphalt for 6 pickleball courts and 2 tennis courts.
The new courts will include new lighting, fencing, bleachers, striping, and nets. “I am excited to see the changes coming to our Parks Department. We have a great park system and TPA Park has been a priority of mine since I took office. It is a beautiful 88-acre park with many different amenities from the Aviary and Zoo, to the new Aquatic Center and now new pickleball and tennis courts. Families will be able to spend the entire day at TPA Park and there will be something for everyone to do,” stated Mayor Sheets.
Once the project is completed, a grand opening and ribbon cutting will be set.
