Edward “Ed” Thomas Charlton Jr., 67, of Jamestown, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born on October 3, 1955, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of JoAnn (Charlton) Dewitt and the late Edward Thomas Charlton Sr.
On August 16, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jodi D. (Newhart) Charlton; she survives.
Ed graduated from Brooke High School in Wellsburg, West Virginia in 1973. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Milligan University in Elizabethton, TN and a Master of Divinity at Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan. He served as Pastor for many churches including, Watauga Christian Church in Watauga, TN, Brady Lane Church in Lafayette, IN, and The Indianola Church in Columbus, OH. He and Jodi planted two churches, New Covenant Christian Church in Columbus, OH and Vineyard Church of Washington in Washington, PA. Most recently Ed and Jodi co-pastored at Old Union Church in Jamestown, IN. In addition, Ed owned and operated Charlton Tax Service since 2001 and he wrote a weekly column for the Lebanon Reporter. Ed served as Chairman of the Board for WAM (We All Matter).
Survivors include his wife: Jodi Charlton; three sons, Seth (Deanna) Charlton, Gabriel Charlton, and Ethan Charlton; three grandchildren, Maximus “Max” Charlton, Augustus “Gus” Charlton, and Melody Charlton; mother, JoAnn Dewitt of Wellsburg, WV; siblings, David (Tanya) Charlton of Shelbyville, KY, Matthew (Joyce) Charlton of Wellsburg, WV, Mary Ann (Dave) Edwards of Wellsburg, WV, and Amy (Joe) Portale of Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by a daughter, Noelle Marie Charlton, in infancy.
Visitation will be Friday May 19th, from 10:00am–2:00pm at Old Union Church, 6833 Old Union Road, Jamestown Indiana. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00pm and burial at Old Union Cemetery. Porter and Hunt Funeral Home & Crematory in Jamestown has been entrusted with his arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his memory to Old Union Church.
