The Clinton County Commissioners have been talking off and on for some time with the Clinton County Health Department about finding a new Health Officer for the county.
Things changed Tuesday morning when Dr. Melissa Pearson was named as the Clinton County Health Officer. She replaces long-time Health Officer Dr. Steven Tharp.
“We’re looking to increase services in the community,” said Pearson. “We’re looking to expand our services so we can better serve Clinton County.”
Pearson worked at IU Health in Frankfort before transferring to a part-time position with IU Health in Tipton so she can spend more timer with her family.
Commissioners President Jordan Brewer was excited about the hire.
When asked his thoughts, Brewer replied, “Fantastic,” he said. “One of the things communities our size struggle with around the state is having such a qualified MD in the community and is willing to serve. Her passion for Clinton County can’t even be expressed in words.”
One thing Pearson is thankful for is that Tharp is staying on as the Assistant Health Officer.
“He is staying on as the Assistant Health Officer for the foreseeable future to help guide me and continue the services and things in the community,” said Pearson.
