Peggy J. Zipperian

Goodwin Funeral Home

Frankfort, Indiana lost one of its greats on July 17, 2025, when Peggy Joyce Zipperian decided she was ready to trade in this world for heaven. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, who were graced with her wit and humor right up until the end.

Peggy was born on May 7, 1928, in Frankfort, Indiana, to R.P. and Letty Wainscott. She grew up alongside sisters Betty, Rozi, Bonnie, and brother Lon. She graduated from Frankfort Senior High School in 1946, where she once won a dance competition doing the jitterbug, something she talked about for the rest of her life. She often said she couldn’t wait to get to heaven so she could hit the dance floor again, legs and hips willing.

In 1948, Peggy caught the eye of Richard Zipperian, who was freshly home from the Navy and, as he liked to say, “still a little shell-shocked” from World War II. Luckily for him, Peggy was the cure. The two were married on May 28, 1948, at First Christian Church in Frankfort and went on to have a wonderful 59-year marriage full of laughter, love, and driving to events separately because he was always ready to go while she had to talk to everyone on the way out.

Peggy was never one to sit still. Over the years, she worked a variety of jobs, each one giving her the chance to do one of her favorite things—talk to everyone. She worked alongside her brother at Wainscott Sewing Center. If you were a seamstress and lived in Clinton County, it’s guaranteed she helped you pick out a pattern and select the perfect fabric. Later, she worked with her daughter at Leddo’s Frozen Yogurt, serving up yogurt in a waffle cone and chicken salad sandwiches. She also spent much of her time volunteering at the First Baptist Church in Frankfort, where she was a devoted member and known for her strong faith.

But Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her two children, Richard (Cynde) Zipperian, Jr. and Letti (Joe) Scheidler, who gave her six grandchildren who kept her busy and laughing: Justin (Amber) Zipperian, Megan Drahman, Jessica (Jordi) O’Neill Casas, Zac Zipperian, Leslie (Nick) Reising, and Lauren (Marty) O’Neill. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren who always enjoyed a visit to Nanny’s.

Peggy lived 97 years with style, humor, and faith. If you knew Peggy, you were lucky, and if she loved you, you never doubted it, because she made sure you knew. She didn’t want her passing to be met with sadness—she wanted joy, stories, and laughter. She’d like you to know she’s reunited with her favorite people, most likely doing the jitterbug and wearing something she made herself.

A Celebration of Peg will be held on August 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Wesley Manor, 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort.  Clinton County Crematory and Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort are assisting the family with arrangements.  Please visit goodwinfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence.
