Peggy Sue Smith, 67, of Jamestown, Indiana passed away on April 29th, 2025, after a courageous fight with cancer.
She was born April 8th, 1958, in Dearborn, Michigan to Luie and Cora Engle. She graduated from Western Boone Jr Sr High School in 1976 and married E. Daniel “Danny” Smith on November 4th, 1978. He survives. Peggy was employed at New Ross Steak House for more than 30 years until she retired in 2020. For many years, she was a member of and held various roles on the board for the New Ross Conservation Club. She enjoyed photography, making beautiful quilts, winning cornhole tournaments, and she never turned down a Hula Hoop contest. She was also known for her delicious zucchini bread.
She is survived by her husband Danny, her daughter, Brittany (James) Koontz of Lebanon, IN; her grandchildren, Kaleb and Ryleigh; brothers, Earl (the late Madeline) Engle of Corbin, KY; Carl (the late Ethel) Engle of South Rockwood, MI; Lee (Sharon) Engle of Tilton, IL; James (Brenda) Engle of Lebanon, IN; Paul (Barbara) Engle of Odessa, TX; and David (Diana) Engle of Hendersonville, TN; brother-in-law Dennis Smith, of Lisbon, ME and Terry (Linda) Smith of Advance, IN, and sister-in-law Sharon Spears (Fred Long) of Jamestown, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Viola Bartley and Doris Fields; mother-in-law Francis Nadine Smith, father-in-law Ermine Dewey Smith, Jr; sister-in-law Marilyn Ritchardson and brother-in-law Michael “Mick” Smith.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Porter and Hunt Funeral Home, 315 West Main Street, in Jamestown, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Montgomery County.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Boone County Cancer Society, or you may also donate blood in her honor. She received numerous blood transfusions that tremendously helped improve and extend her life.
