Commissioners President Jordan Brewer said he was happy with the final price of $17.75 million dollars.
“As I explained in the meeting, it really was roughly over a half million dollars less and it’s going to grow a little bit as well with the change order that’s going to reduce the cost,” said Brewer.
Brewer added there were things they had to add to the project.
“From a legal standpoint, the build out that is going to be technically temporary in some regards but will be assigned to the Annex portion rather than the courthouse,” said Brewer. “What I mean by that is that if we would have rented a building, the community that housed the court, prosecutor and clerk, we would have had to pay for that either way.”
The Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting on the building on Wednesday, August 9.
In other news, the Commissioners turned down a bid for a company to buy the skating rink in TPA Park.
“Today, we learned the skating rink was for sale and it sound like they have some level of a purchase agreement in place,” said Brewer. “Going back to a couple of years ago, it was kind of a nuance that the Babers owned the building but the county actually owned the building that it sat on.”
The bid came from a company in Monterey, California and their price was $250,000.
