
Howard County Prosecutor Mark A. McCann has announced the filing of a Notice of Intent to Seek Life Imprisonment Without Parole in the case of State of Indiana v. Alexander Bieghler (Cause No. 34D02-2509-F1-002551).
According to the filing, the prosecutor is seeking a sentence of life imprisonment without parole pursuant to Indiana Code § 35-50-2-9. The notice alleges as an aggravating factor that the victim was under the age of 12 at the time the defendant allegedly committed the murder.
Bieghler has previously been charged with multiple offenses, including Aggravated Battery (Level 1 felony), Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 felony), Reckless Homicide (Level 5 felony), and Murder. All charges remain pending.
The case is currently proceeding through Howard Superior Court 2.
As with all criminal prosecutions, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Due to the ongoing nature of the case, the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office stated that no further comment will be made at this time.
