Public Information Meeting Being Held for Proposed State Road 32 Change

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a public information meeting will be held Monday, April 25 for the proposed State Road 32 addition of passing lanes and pavement rehabilitation project. This entire project on S.R. 32 extends from N. Enterprise Blvd. (W. South St.) in Lebanon to North 1175 W. in Thorntown.

The meeting will be held at the Western Boone Junior-Senior High School, located at 1205 IN-75 in Thorntown. The meeting is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On S.R. 32, the project would add four passing lanes that would each be approximately one mile long, from North 325 W. to North 1175 W. The proposed cross section would include two, 12-foot wide travel lanes with three-foot wide paved shoulders. In the four areas where the passing lanes would be installed, the cross section would include three, 12-foot wide travel lanes with three-foot wide paved shoulders. It would also include an asphalt overlay from North 800 W. to N. Enterprise Blvd. Crews would also need to establish new roadside ditches within the passing lane areas and relocate any small structures within the limits of the passing lane locations. In addition, the proposed project would add a raised, concrete curb to better define the entrance to the Marathon gas station at the intersection of S.R. 32 and S.R. 75 in Thorntown.

The traffic plan for this proposed project will utilize phased construction to limit the impact to commuters during the construction of the passing lanes. Officials do not anticipate the need for a road closure or detour, and access to all properties along S.R. 32 would be maintained during construction. Project stakeholders, including local school corporations and emergency services, will be notified at least two weeks in advance of any construction that would block or limit access.

This public information meeting is an opportunity for INDOT to meet with members of the community regarding the road work, solicit input and address concerns the community may have regarding the proposed project.
