Indiana State Police Detectives are investigating a vehicle pursuit that led to a deputy discharging a firearm on I-70 near the 90 mile marker. This investigation is being conducted at the request of the Hancock County Sheriff.
Preliminary information revealed the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office encountered a man they believed to be impaired. The man got into a vehicle and fled. The pursuit led to I-70 westbound. One of the involved deputies attempted to deploy a tire deflation device on I-70 westbound near the 90 mile marker. As the suspect vehicle drove through the area where the deputy was standing, the deputy discharged his firearm. The suspect stopped a short time later and was taken into custody. The suspect was not struck by gunfire or injured in the incident. No officers were injured.
The suspect was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and faces several preliminary charges.
Indiana State Police Detectives are actively investigating this incident and there is no further information to release at this time. All crimes mentioned in this release are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
