The Boone County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on Monday.
“Today, we remember the life of our fallen brother, Deputy Jacob Pickett. Two years ago today, we tragically lost our deputy, husband, father and friend. March 2 will always be a humble and somber day to the people of Boone County. Deputy Pickett succumbed to his injuries on March 5 but continued to live on and help save lives by donating his organs to those in need. Deputy Pickett was a pillar within the K9 division at the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and an exemplary officer to his co-workers. His infectious laugh continues to ring in our ears. We continue to miss our friend and carry on with his memory in our hearts.”
The Jacob Pickett Response Organization, headed up by Deputy Pickett’s widow, Jen Pickett, will be hosting a Remembrance Day Saturday, March 7 at the Boone County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please come out and support a great cause.
Sheriff Mike Nielsen stated: “We have spent the past two years mitigating a very difficult path, but together we have made it through. When I sent out an open email early this morning to the BCSO staff and all county employees, I was reminded once again the beauty that has risen from these ashes. We have all become better at putting others first and practicing servant leadership just like Jake did in his daily life and career each day. Therefore, we now focus on the mission of good and continue on to Respond Like Jake. We will never
forget. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jen and the kids, Jake’s family and friends. We also cannot forget the Fosters and Lamar’s during those two horrible days in 2018. John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”.
