James Samuel “Sam” Myers III, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, May 23, 2026. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on July 27, 1966, a son of James S. “Jim” Myers, Jr. and the late Betty Lou (Nease) Myers.
Sam was united in marriage to Mary Elaine (Campbell) Myers on June 18, 1988, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon. They have shared almost 38 wonderful, loving years together.
A lifelong resident of Lebanon, Sam was a 1984 graduate of Lebanon High School. He went on to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduating in 1989. Sam began his career serving Lebanon for 28 years starting out as a patrol officer and working his way up to Chief of Police, retiring in 2016. Additionally, Sam was a founding member of the Boone County Special Response Team. He then served as an investigator for the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office for ten years. Recently, Sam enjoyed working part-time at the Golf Club of Indiana.
Sam was a long-standing pillar of the community. He spent over 30 years coaching various sports from little league to high school football. He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Lebanon. He was a devoted husband, father, papaw, and friend. He was the first call whenever anything was needed and would show up no questions asked. During his free time, he loved to go hunting, fishing, and golfing. Above all, he loved cooking and enjoyed spending time on the patio with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Sam is survived by four children, Lauren (Blade) Lasley of Jamestown, Caleb (fiancée, Gabby) Myers, Trevor Myers, and Eli Myers all of Lebanon; grandson, Brammer Lasley; father, Jim Myers of Lebanon; brother, Terry L. (Marcia) Nelson of Lebanon; sister, Gloria J. (Mike) Brown of Beloit, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Madonna Campbell of Lebanon.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother, stillborn sister, Melissa Ann; brother, Garry C. Nelson; nephew, Terry L. “TJ” Nelson; brother-in-law, Robert Campbell; and father-in-law, Benny Campbell.
Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Lebanon Christian Church, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Private family interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon at a later date. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon has been entrusted with his care.
