Residents across Frankfort and portions of central and east-central Indiana are facing an increased threat of severe thunderstorms tonight, with additional storms possible into Tuesday.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. EDT Tuesday for 10 Indiana counties, including Clinton County, where Frankfort is located.
The watch also covers Carroll, Hamilton, Howard, Madison, Tipton, Delaware, Henry, Randolph and Tippecanoe counties. Communities included in the watch area include Frankfort, Kokomo, Lafayette, West Lafayette, Tipton, Muncie, Anderson, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Delphi and New Castle, among others.
Storms Expected Overnight
The forecast calls for a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, mainly after 11 p.m. Some storms could become severe.
Additional thunderstorms are possible especially after midnight and north and east of Indianapolis. Forecasters say the primary threats will be damaging winds, heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
Temperatures are expected to remain steady around 75 degrees, with south-southwest winds near 6 mph.
Residents should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, particularly overnight when storms could develop while many people are sleeping.
More Storms Possible Tuesday
The threat doesn’t end with Monday night’s storms.
Tuesday will bring a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with showers becoming more likely and thunderstorms possible after 3 p.m. Some storms could again be severe.
The high temperature is expected to reach approximately 86 degrees, with south-southwest winds of 8 to 10 mph and gusts up to 18 mph. Rainfall totals of one-quarter to one-half inch are possible.
Tuesday Night Storm Threat Continues
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to remain possible Tuesday night. There is a 60% chance of precipitation, with some storms potentially becoming severe.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 7 p.m., followed by additional chances for storms through the overnight hours. Another quarter- to half-inch of rainfall could occur.
