Sgt. William “Bill” Schmaltz

Sgt. William “Bill” Schmaltz, 33, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 10, 2025, at IU Health Arnett in Lafayette. He was born May 11, 1991, in Kokomo to Cyril “Pete and Christina “Christy” (Hawes) Schmaltz.

Bill was a graduate of Clinton Central High School, class of 2010 and received an Associate Degree in Agriculture from Ivy Tech. He served in the United States Army in Iraq and Afghanistan before being medically discharged. He worked for the railroad. Bill enjoyed playing Pokémon, fishing, working on trains, and spending time with his family. He had a quick wit and loved making others laugh. He will be remembered for many things, including his self-proclaimed comedic timing.

Along with his parents, Bill is survived by his children, Kyler, Levi, and Hadley; a special nephew, Zane Schmaltz; brothers, Tommy and Blaine Schmaltz; grandparents, Judy Hawes, Gary (Sherryl) Hall; aunts and uncles, Stacie (Sean) Butler, Billy (Jennifer) Hawes, and Heather (Joe) Grissom; and his Great Dane, Rory who he loved greatly.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Julie Hall and aunt, Jennifer Hawes.

Visitation will be held, Friday, January 17, 2025, from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Pastor Stephen Coultas will officiate. Burial will follow at Middlefork Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Clinton County Honor Guard.
