Shirley Jean Smith, 78, formerly of Colfax, passed away October 30, 2025 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, IN. She was born June 12, 1947 in Crawfordsville, IN to Floyd William & Lois Maxine (Winslow) Fitzsimmons. She married Joe Smith on February 28, 1971 in Darlington and he preceded her in passing on June 16, 2007.
Shirley was a 1965 graduate of Roachdale High School. She worked at Raybestos in Crawfordsville for 5 years and was a cook/cafeteria supervisor for the Clinton County Hospital for over 14 years. She was a member of the Lafayette Eagles Aerie #347, moving her membership to the Frankfort Eagles, worked on the Colfax Election Board for the Colfax Fire Department Axillary and the Red Hat Society in Lebanon. Shirley enjoyed Bingo, sewing, crocheting, shopping but especially loves time with family and grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by daughter, Christine LouAnn (Rodney) Mounts of Frankfort, son, James Williams (Mary) Smith of Frankfort, sisters, Lois Mae Swank and Mary Jane (Jerry) Renick both of Crawfordsville, grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Stevens, Brett Haling, Tyler (Krista) Smith, Sadie Smith, Tori Smith, Jaci Coyle and 8 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Willie Fitzsimmons and step-son, Joseph Smith.
Visitation will be 12 Noon-2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Archer-Weston Funeral and Cremation Center, 501 E. Clinton St., Frankfort. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Alan Downing officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery.
