Stephen Pulley 74, Carmel, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Steve grew up on a farm in Forest, IN, the son of the late Charles and Dorotha (Mundell) Pulley. In his youth he enjoyed farming, showing animals in 4-H, racing cars, and creating mischief. In his later years he often said, “If you’re not causing some trouble, you’re not having any fun”. This was a quote his children never heard from him when they were young. Steve graduated from Clinton Central High School in 1965, and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue. He was a proud Boilermaker! He went on to work long careers at Jenn-Air and then at United Technologies, where he was awarded several patents for his press designs. He retired from UTC in 2018.
Steve married Nancy (Smith) on July 21, 1973, and they created a beautiful life together raising their children in Carmel. He enjoyed refereeing basketball and football games, and umpiring baseball games. Steve was a dedicated husband and father, attending many social gatherings, sporting events, and band concerts to support his family. He volunteered to coach his children’s basketball, soccer, football, and hockey teams. At one time he was the Youth Hockey Commissioner at the Carmel Ice Skadium. All of these things he did because of his love for his family. In addition to sports, Steve also served on various committees at Carmel United Methodist Church. One year he even offered the services of his family to mow the church lawn each week in an attempt to help CUMC save money. Later in life Steve enjoyed regularly attending Indy Fuel hockey games, visiting Wrigley Field for Cubs games, and other various sporting events and concerts around Indianapolis. Additionally he found great joy in spending time at his family’s farm back in Forest, IN.
Steve was preceded by his wife Nancy. He is survived by his daughter, Kara Pulley; two sons, Charlie and Ben Pulley; three brothers, Don, Allen and Chris Pulley; his in-laws Jonelle Smith, Suzy (Tom) Primavera, and Jon Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Per Steve’s wishes, there will be no services.
