Indianapolis, IN – One person is in critical condition and another was seriously injured after crashing into Fall Creek near I-65 and 21st Street near Downtown Indianapolis.
Just after 9:00 a.m. an Indiana State Trooper located a stolen vehicle near I-70 and post road. When the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over the driver fled. The pursuit went westbound on I-70 from Post Road. As the pursuit neared downtown the suspect vehicle turned onto I-65 northbound in the southbound lanes, traveling the wrong way on the interstate. The involved trooper made the decision to terminate the pursuit. A short time later, the vehicle that was fleeing from the trooper earlier, was reportedly crashed and submerged in Fall Creek.
When emergency responders arrived in the area they located the vehicle in Fall Creek, submerged underwater. A male subject was swimming to the shore and was taken into custody. It was believed there was another occupant inside the car. First responders were able to enter the water and pull a female from the wreckage. She received emergency medical attention at the scene from IFD and IEMS and was transported to a local hospital in very critical condition.
Indiana State Police Detectives and Crash Reconstructionists are still investigating this incident. We expect to update information about this case tomorrow.
