On February 16, 2026, shortly after 12:15 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Taylor University Police Department, and Van Buren Police Department responded to an injury-involved crash on County Road 600 South near County Road 1150 East, in Grant County, IN. This crash resulted in one individual sustaining severe injuries and three individuals deceased.
The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper AJ Coffee revealed that Alexander McGuin, 23, of Gas City, IN, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound on County Road 600 South near County Road 1150 East in Grant County, IN. The Malibu traveled off the roadway, struck a tree, and came to a final rest. Also in the vehicle were three passengers identified as James M. Clark Jr., 21, of Dunkirk, IN, Gracelynn N. Daniels, 19, of New Castle, IN, and Michael L. Reading, 22, of Hartford City, IN.
Mr. Clark Jr., Ms. Daniels, and Mr. McGuin were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office. Notification to next-of-kin has been made. Mr. Reading was transported via medical helicopter to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation. At this time, the consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or narcotics is suspected of contributing to this crash. Speed is also believed to be a contributing factor.
