2A Sectional 37 – North Montgomery
Western Boone took on Delphi in the nightcap at North Montgomery after Seeger handled the host Chargers 49-43 in game one.
It was a slow start for both squads in the first half, but the Stars found an edge and took a 23-13 lead to the break. In the third quarter, the Oracles went on a run and cut the lead to five as the teams entered the final frame. The fourth quarter offered all that fans could hope for to kick off a State Tournament. The teams traded buckets for the first four minutes of the fourth. A pair of buckets from Marcus Fortner and Quinn Westerfield pushed the Stars’ lead to 8 at 42-34 with three and a half to go. The Oracles hit the next three baskets, including a three off of a Western Boone turnover to cut the lead to 1. After a free throw by the Stars, Delphi had a chance to tie or take the lead, but the game-tying look was knocked away and the Stars held on to win 43-41. Western Boone moves on to play Rensselaer Central at 7:30 on Friday.
1A Sectional 54 – Clinton Central
The Bulldogs of Clinton Central matched up with the Falcons of Frontier in the opening game of Sectional 54.
Frontier got out to an early lead, but Clinton Central stuck with them to open the game. Brady Boone had five points in the first quarter for Clinton Central but Frontier held a 12-11 advantage after eight minutes. The Falcons found a groove from distance in the second, knocking down three triples from the corner to attack the Bulldogs’ 3-2 zone. At the intermission, Frontier had built their lead up to 10 at 25-15. The Bulldogs fought to get back in the game in the second half, but Frontier sustained multiple Bulldog runs and found baskets when they needed. The Falcons’ Drew Turner had his way in the paint, scoring 15 points to pace a balanced Frontier scoring attack that saw four Falcons finish in double figures. Frontier held on to win by 16, 58-42. Amrin Barrett led the Bulldog attack with 12, Brady Boone and Cole Davison each finished with nine. Frontier advances to play Traders Point Christian at 6:00 on Friday.
