Congratulations to Baby Boy Crow and Navey Covault, the 2 Leap Year babies born at Witham Health Services. Izzabelle Crow from Frankfort surprised the OB/ Maternity staff at Witham with an early delivery. “We weren’t sure if we were going to have a Leap Year baby this year” said MaryBeth Searles, Director of Marketing at Witham Health Services. Baby Boy Crow was not due until March 5 but decided to make his entrance at noon on February 29 weighing 6 lbs. 13 oz. and was 21 inches long. He is welcomed home by 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Mom is not sure at this time what day he will celebrate his birthday because just a few hours earlier his cousin was born in Lafayette and they may decide to celebrate birthdays together each year.

Megan and Lucas Covault of Crawfordsville watched their due date of February 25 come and go as they anticipated the arrival of their baby. Finally at 9:18 p.m. on February 29 their first child, a girl, was born weighing 8 lbs. 5 oz. and was 19 ½“ long. Navey will be celebrating her birthday 2 days in a row each year, one on February 28 and the other on March 1 and then every 4 years she will celebrate 3 days in a row, February 28, February 29 and March 1 said her parents.

Bay Boy Crow and Navey beat the odds and joined the ranks of babies born on this date also known as “leapers” or “leap lings”, who celebrate their actual birthday every four years. Witham’s Obstetrics wing has been open since 2003 and has had 8 “leapers” before this year. One born in 2008, two in 2012, four in 2016 and one in 2020. The babies were presented onesies donated by Crossroads Imprints of Lebanon and the mothers were given 40oz Witham Stainless Steel Mugs.
