A life-long resident of Colfax, Verna Lou Ferguson, 100, passed away January 12, 2026 at Mulberry Health. She was born in Lafayette on November 1, 1925 to Jay F. and Halcie (Hill) Gery. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1943 and the University of Indianapolis in 1945 with a BS in Education. She taught for 23 years in Colfax, Thorntown, and Clinton Prairie Schools. She and Raymond Ferguson were married in June of 1948. Raymond preceded her in passing in 2006.

Surviving are her daughters: Patricia (Steve) Eaton of Colfax and Gloria (Kevin) Schick of Oracle, AZ, grandchildren: Brent Eaton, Brad (Michelle) Eaton, Brian (Michelle) Schick, and Andrew (Lizzy) Schick, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with her faithful companion: her little dog, Baxter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant son: Billy Jay Ferguson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Viaquest Hospice Team and to the entire staff of Mulberry Health, for the care Verna received during the last years of her life.
A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Archer-Weston Funeral & Cremation Center, 501 East Clinton Street, Frankfort. Friends may visit from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax.
