Mr. Wayne Joseph Mathew, 88, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Brownsburg Meadows Assisted Living. He was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on June 7, 1936, a son of the late Ted and Laura (Hardebeck) Mathew.
On July 11, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Marie (Garing) Mathew, in Kentland, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2013.
Wayne graduated from Wolcott High School. After graduating he served our country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Panama. Following his service, Wayne returned home and was employed as a mechanic at Allison Transmission for a short time. In 1965, he purchased his first farm and devoted his life to farming.
Wayne was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
Survivors include four children, Lorie Mathew of Zionsville, Larry (Marcy) Mathew of Lizton, Gary Mathew of Lizton, and Lana (Robert) Cramer of Zionsville; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Leatha May (Ralph) Miiller.
Visitation is planned for Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Rosary held at 3:30 p.m., prior to the visitation. The Funeral Mass with Military Rites will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 319 East South Street, in Lebanon, at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Interment will follow the service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Kentland, Indiana.
