Wayne Walter Doke, 89, of Clarks Hill, Ind., passed away March 14, 2025 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on May 8, 1935 in Colburn, Ind. to Everett and Sarah (Platt) Doke. He married Shirley Smith in October of 1955, enjoying 69 years together. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2024.
Wayne was a 1953 graduate of Clarks Hill High School and served 9 years in the United States National Guard from 1953 to 1962. He had a milk route for Frazier Dairy for 3 years, had worked as a machinist at Alcoa in Lafayette for 13 years and was the owner/operator of Doke Trucking and Ole Hickory Transport. Wayne was a member of the Clarks Hill Christian Church. He was an avid basketball fan and especially loved watching his grandchildren’s sports. He enjoyed motorcycles and was a member of the HOG Cycle Club.
Surviving are his Grandchildren: Amber (Scott) Miller of West Point, Andrew Doke of Clarks Hill, Ashley (Shawn) Coleman of Colfax, and Aaron (Hannah) Doke of Clarks Hill; Great Grandchildren: Caitlyn (Brendan), Lily, Aubrey, Clara, Breyann, Wyatt, Charlee, Jeanna, Carter, and Carsten; Siblings: Patty Blacker of Colfax, Ethel Reigle of Flora, and James Doke of Lebanon; Daughter-in-law: Sue Doke; along with several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Shirley, son: Kim Doke, siblings: Everett Doke Jr., William Doke, Betty Watkins, and Wilbur Doke.
Friends may visit 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Clarks Hill Christian Church. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the church.
