According to the Indiana High School Athletic Association, known as IHSAA, numerous Boone County school sports will receive different classifications this year.
Western Boone:
IHSAA released the list of new classes, which mainly affects Western Boone who will drop to Class 2A for volleyball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball in the fall.
The report showed that the school will remain in Class 2A for girls’ soccer and boys’ soccer, only missing out on moving to 1A by a single student in girls’ soccer.
The school’s football program is also slated to drop to Class 2A, which marks Western Boone as the largest school in the class for the upcoming season.
Lebanon:
No changes in classes for the Tigers is slated for the upcoming fall season, and Lebanon will remain in Class 3A for volleyball, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer. The Lady Tigers soccer team will remain in Class 2A, and the football team will be in Class 4A.
Zionsville:
Zionsville remains in Class 4A for volleyball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball while remaining in Class 3A for boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer. Zionsville will also remain in Class 6A for football.
Upcoming season:
Starting this fall season, Class 4A for the sports such as volleyball and basketball will only be in 80 schools, Class 3A will be in 100, Class 2A will be in 100 and the rest of the schools will be slotted into Class 1A.
Sectional assignments will not be announced until later in the spring with some movement and new momentum expected with the differing class sizes that the re-classifications have caused.
Updated classifications through IHSAA for the 2024-2025 season will not be announced until the fall, but reports suggest that the classes will follow a similar trend for the schools in both baseball and softball, remaining the same or similar for Lebanon and Zionsville and possibly dropping for Western Boone.
