The Whitestown Fire Department announced the passing of former Fire Chief John Hancock, 89, of Whitestown, where they honored his legacy of serving Worth Township Volunteer Fire Department from 1953 to 1988, serving as Chief from 1979 to 1986.
Hancock was am involved resident of Boone County, graduating from Whitestown High School in 1954 as the class President before residing in Boone County his entire life. Hancock worked as an electrician for 36 years before retiring in 1995, and he continued his dedication to the community through his service on the Worth Township Volunteer Fire Department. Hancock was also a farmer, growing up on a family farm that he continued to work for many years. Hancock also volunteered his electrical expertise to Habitat for Humanity during his retirement years.
“The Whitestown Fire Department mourns the passing of Retired Chief John Hancock,” the department released. “His dedication, leadership and stories will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with the Hancock family during this difficult time. May his legacy inspire future generations.”
Hancock was also a 68-year member of the F&A Masons, a member of the Whitestown Celestial Lodge #525 since 1956.
