The Town of Whitestown announced the postponement of the scheduled mosquito fogging operations set for tonight, July 18 at Main Street Park to implement an alternative approach following public outreach recommending the alternative fogging methods.
The Main Street Park fogging operations were scheduled to be implemented tonight, Thursday, July 18 around 9 p.m. to reduce the number of insects at the park, but following public outreach regarding the fogging operations, the town elected to implement an alternative mosquito spray approach instead.
According to the town, leaders have been in communication with the Indiana State Chemist, stating that the chemical used in fogging, “Mosquitomist One U.L.V,” is approved and recommended by the state for the operation. The town stated that community feedback from their initial announcement of the fogging procedures on Tuesday underscored a strong preference for more targeted mosquito control methods, according to Town manager Katie Barr.
“Listening to the feedback of the residents is paramount to us,” Barr said. “Based on the feedback we’ve received, we believe that transitioning to a direct grass spray approach aligns more closely with the preferences and priorities of our residents.”
The town will reportedly order a spray that the Indiana State Chemist recommended as an alternative for the operations.
