William E. Shoemaker passed away June 28, 2022. He was born at home in Boone County to Buren and Ruth Shoemaker, who preceded him in death.
He attended Zionsville High School and graduated from Purdue University, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. He married Joan Hirschfeld on Dec. 26, 1951. She preceded him in death.
William served as a forward observer in the Korean War. He lived in Zionsville for many years with his wife. He farmed and worked for many years at Boone County State Bank. He was a 4-H leader and a Kiwanis Club member. He loved visiting the American Legion, even on trips, and golfing. He opened Hickory Bend Golf Course in 1995 with his brother, Jim, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Rose Pitzer.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Shoemaker (Patricio Ramos), Deidre Bush, Natalie (David) Wolfe and Nanette Shoemaker; his grandchildren, Adelaide (Algirdas) Navickas, Clarissa Bush, Charles Neudecker IV, Riley Neudecker and Cody Neudecker; his great-grandson, Domantas Navickas; and many other family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. A service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1. Interment will follow at Mt. Runn Cemetery. Online condolences: MyersMortuary.com
