Wrestling State Finals Preview

The Boys’ Wrestling State Finals kicks off tomorrow in Indianapolis at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Rossville brings three wrestlers to the big stage, and Western Boone adds one, making it four area wrestlers vying for a state championship.

157 Class

Jacob Weaver (Rossville) Junior, 43-2—Weaver won the 157 weight class at both Sectionals and Regionals. At Semi-State, Weaver fell to Warren Central’s Christian Arberry before winning the 3rd-place match. At State, Weaver will match up against Brock Hagewood of Prairie Heights. Hagewood placed second at the Allen County Semi-State and is 45-4 on the season.

 

Kameron Mikesell (Western Boone) Senior, 35-5 — Mikesell won Sectionals, placed second at Regionals, and second at Semi-State. He draws Adams Central’s Maverick Dubach in the first round, Dubach is 33-5 on the year.

 

165 Class

Jacob Cole (Rossville) Junior, 41-4 — Cole placed 2nd at both Sectionals and Regionals and third at Semi-State. At Sectionals and Regionals, it was Carmel’s Michael Major who defeated Cole, at Semi-State, Cole fell to Michael Cain one match before he would have seen Major a third time in three weeks. At State, Cole matches up with Jesus Lopez of Terre Haute South, Lopez placed second at the Ford Center Semi-State and is 37-6 on the season.

 

215 Class

Noah Weaver (Rossville) Senior, 45-1 — Weaver has been dominant all season long after moving up a weight class. The defending champion of the 190 weight class placed first at Sectionals, Regionals, and Semi-State at 215. Now Weaver will look to add a second State Championship to his already impressive resume. In the first round, he will take on Ethan Schraner of Tell City. Schraner is 36-3 on the season and placed fourth at the Ford Center Semi-State.
