Boone County K-9 Leads The Charge To Find Missing Juvenile

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with K-9 Justice and Sgt. Travis Sutphin and K-9 Chase and Sgt. Ryan Musgrave located a missing juvenile yesterday.

According to authorities, on March 12 around 4:30 p.m., Sutphin and Musgrave were alerted to a case in the Zionsville area where a juvenile had been reported missing for just over two hours.

Authorities stated that Justice and Chase were dispatched to begin tracking the juvenile in different locations, and Justice alongside Sutphin located a sweatshirt belonging to the juvenile that was utilized as the scent article to further the search.

Sutphin, School Resource Officer Marc Mitalski and Zionsville Police Department officer Andrew Raiford began to track the juvenile north with the help of Justice.

according to authorities, Justice continued to track the scent of the juvenile over a fence, through the woods, across several small creeks and through farm fields before locating the juvenile around three-quarters of a mile later near a pond.

Authorities stated that the juvenile was returned safely to his family without any further incident.

“Another great find by K-9 Justice and Sgt. Sutphin,” the department released. “The Boone County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the responding agencies for assisting with this track.”

The location of the juvenile marks one of multiple instances where K-9 Justice has played a pivotal role in solving a case in the Boone County area in recent weeks, including Justice’s help in locating a fleeing suspect who was located through the woods stop a ledge after fleeing a residence upon the arrival of law enforcement.
