Clinton County Emergency Management Service announced the EMT program expected to be reinvigorated this fall to train EMTs within the county in hopes that the graduates of the program will continue their service to Clinton County.
Clinton County Emergency Management Service will be hosting the EMT course after halting its classes last year for one fall semester as the paramedic classes began to take shape with the department. Clinton County EMS Director Steven Deckard commented that following a successful paramedic program kickoff, the department is looking toward a successful revitalization of the EMT class.
“We kind of dialed it back a little bit because of the paramedic program and took a fall semester off from the EMT class knowing that our primary focus needed to be the paramedic program,” Deckard said. “Now that we have that up and running, we’re ready to dive back into the EMT side of things.”
The EMT classes will be hosted beginning Aug. 6 with 50 classes available that will prepare the participants to pass the National Registry exam, and Deckard stated that the previous EMT classes prepared the highest passing rate of EMTs in numerous years in Clinton County.
“I think we’re doing some really great things with our education department,” Deckard said. “Last year, we had the highest EMT pass rate in years. We’re excited to produce EMTs in Clinton County, and we’re going to keep on with that initiative.”
Following the passing of the EMT class, participants will become certified EMTs that will be equipped with the knowledge to care for those in need by joining an EMS department or fire department.
The Clinton County program will run from Aug. 6, 2024 through Jan. 30, 2025 with classes being held on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuition for the course will be $1,000 while members of the Volunteer Fire Departments will receive a 25% discount for the class. A $200 down payment must be applied to the tuition, and payment plans are available. The tuition includes a shirt and textbook.
