Mary Agnes Slagle, 87, passed away December 8, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville, Indiana. She was born in the Southwest part of Boone County, on February 22, 1936, a daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Ward and Katie Alice (Knipp) Ward.
On October 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Marvin Paul Slagle in Boone County, Indiana, he preceded her in death on May 12, 1980.
Mary grew up in Boone County and was a 1954 Lebanon High School graduate. After high school, she attended Central Business College in Indianapolis and graduated with honors in 1955. Mary worked as a secretary for GM Acceptance Corporation until 1962. From 1965 to 1980 she worked with her husband Marvin at Slagle Sales and Service in Lebanon. After Marvin’s death, Mary went on to be an employee for EJ Coleman for 3 years. In 1984 Mary began working as a secretary at St. Vincent Hospital, where she worked until her retirement.
Mary attended New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown and Lebanon Christian Church and was a member of the church choir. She was a member of Athena Chapter Epsilon Sigma Alpha in Lebanon, Past Matron Order of Eastern Star, and she was a member of Witham Memorial Hospital volunteers. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family dearly.
Mary is survived by her sons, Paul Karl (Darlene) Slagle of Fishers and John Edward (Michelle) Slagle of White Plains, New York; four grandchildren, Devin Slagle, Branden (Makenzie) Slagle, Estella Slagle, Alexander Slagle; three great grandchildren, Hunter Slagle, Henry Slagle, and Tucker Slagle; sister-in-law, Diana Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth R., and Hazen E. Ward; sisters, Martha J. Wilcox, and Mamie Gates; brother-in-law, Gerald Gates; and sister-in-law, Fern Ward.
Private Family Services will be held at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon, Indiana. Mary will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, 935 E Washington St, Lebanon, IN 46052. Myers Mortuary has been entrusted with her arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in her memory to the Lebanon Public Library, 104 E Washington St, Lebanon, IN 46052.
