About 100 people jammed into the Frankfort Neighborhood Center for the Mayor’s Luncheon for Scouting Thursday.
“Scouting’s very active in our community,” said Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets. “I think it’s grown and I think a lot of its is post-pandemic. I think they kind of took a break there for awhile. We have a lot of activities going on and a lot of students involved.”
Frankfort has seven active units in the area, including Pack 337, Pack 338, Troop 336, Troop 337, Troop 338, Troop 3380 and Crew 338. Committee members for the luncheon were Sheets, Kimberly Black, Ron Pritchett, Jim Siegfried and Stacey Hancock-Dollahan. Charles Frey was the key note speaker.
Event organizers said they have raised over $6,000 of their goal of $8,000.
“I would highly recommend somebody join the Boy Scouts,” said Sheets. “They learn so much and its life lessons not necessarily what they are going to learn in school. They have so many fun activities. They go camping. They have a Pinewood Derby. There’s so many things for them to grow.”
Sheets also said that the youth who attended are the future of this city and the community.
“I think we need to embrace them and let them know we care,” said Sheets. “We need to let them know that we support them.”
