Vada Alice Darnell, 102, of Azusa, California, formerly of Lebanon, Indiana went to her Heavenly reward on November 9, 2022. She was born near Lebanon on February 11, 1920, daughter of the late Vallie G. Hedge and Laura M. (Martin) Hedge. She married Paul R. Darnell June 1, 1941, in Lebanon and got to celebrate 50 loving years before he unexpectedly passed away on March 6, 1992.
Vada lived in Lebanon 77 years before moving to Urbana, Ohio and later Azusa, California. She worked as a payroll clerk at Stewart-Warner, a bookkeeper at Shumate Business Forms during WWII while her husband was serving in the United States Coast Guard, and later as bookkeeper at Adler’s Fine Clothing for 19 years, retiring in January 1982.
Vada was a member of the Lebanon Wesleyan Church for more than 75 years and taught Sunday School classes for more than 22 years there as well as many years of Vacation Bible School.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker, making all feel loved and welcomed in her home.
Survivors include daughter, Linda S. McKenzie (Doc) of Duarte, California; two grandchildren, Ronda L. Glessner of Urbana, Ohio, and Brent A. Robbins (Samantha) of near Seattle, Washington; four step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and ten step great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, two sisters, Vivian J. Alderson, and Valerie B. Wendling; and son-in-law, Rev. Ronald E. Robbins, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services are planned for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Lebanon Wesleyan Church, 1004 South Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, with Rev. Dr. Morris Jones, officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon beside her husband, Paul.
