William F. “Bill” Tyree

William F. Tyree, 79, passed away Friday evening, March 15, 2024, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana surrounded by his family. He was born in Frankfort, Indiana, on January 1, 1945, a son of the late William “Bill” and Laverne (Kinslow) Tyree.

He was raised in the Colfax, Indiana area and lived in Glasgow, Kentucky for a time. He returned to Indiana and attended Lebanon High School. Bill joined the United States Army at the age of 17 to become a paratrooper. He went to Fort Knox, Fort Benning, and then was shipped to Panama. Bill was honorably discharged in May 1965. He returned to Indiana where he worked for Batts Trucking for 30 years, retiring in 1995. During retirement he was employed with Crop Production Services and retired from that job in 2022.

He was first married to Diann (Miller) in 1965. They had divorced and she preceded him in death on December 3, 1999. On September 11, 1973, he was married to Barbara Ellen (Nease) Tyree. She passed away on February 16, 2000.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool and cards. He also loved to garden.

Survivors include five children, Phillip J. Tyree of Lebanon, Susan Miller of Elizaville, Tammie (Richard) Arens of Lebanon, Christina (Daniel) Dugan of Indianapolis, and Carrie (Gabe) Borders of Noblesville; stepchildren, Dennis (Bridgette) Rose of Lebanon, Larry Rose of Thorntown, Tracy Rose of Colfax, and Jody (Larry) Hammons of Lebanon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Paul) Kincaid of Advance, Mary Maddox of Lebanon, Ruth Ann (Jim) Tyler of Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Evie Neese; brothers, Jim Tyree and Wayne Tyree; stepson, Jeff “Bud” Rose; and a grandson, Andrew Shelton.

Funeral Services with Military Rites are planned for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
