Zionsville & Frankfort Claim Top Two Spots On Safewise ‘Safest Cities In Indiana’ List For 2024

The Town of Zionsville and City of Frankfort snagged the top two spots on the Safewise 10 Safest Cities in Indiana for 2024 due to the property crime rates and violent crime rates.

The Town of Zionsville rose to first place and clocked in a population of 32,575 and a decreased violent crime rate that helped offset its rise in property crime rate. The calculated violent crime rate for the town was 0.1 in 2024 compared to 0.3 in 2023 and 0.5 in 2022, and the property crime rate is 3.7 for 2024 compared to 3.6 in 2023 and 3 in 2022.

Frankfort was inserted as a “new” contender on the list due to the lack of reports for 2023, and it has a reported population of 16,572 with a drastically reduced property crime rate that placed it in second place. The report showed that Frankfort had a violent crime rate of 0.4 in 2024 compared to 0.4 in 2022 and a property crime rate of 3.1 in 2024 compared to 10.4 in 2022.

Frankfort Police Department Chief Scott Shoemaker stated that Frankfort’s position in the top two of the list far surpasses its last placement on the list in 2022 when it ranked ninth in the state, and he credits the officers and first responders of the city and county for ensuring that the crime rates remain low.

“I am so proud of the work done each and every day by the employees of FPD,” Shoemaker said. “Our department works 24/7/365 to ensure the safety of our residents and those visiting. This report is a data-driven testament to the dedication of our employees to keep Frankfort safe.”

Safewise is a national brand that creates a 10 Safest Cities list for every state each year to showcase the safest cities across the nation and determine the safest state in the nation.

“Indiana has plenty to be proud of this year despite slight increases in violent crime and property crime,” the company reported. “The state still comes in among the lowest in the country for per capita crime overall. And the safest cities in Indiana boast even lower incidence of crime.”

The Frankfort Police Department stated that the achievement of second safest city in Indiana is due to the partnership between all the Clinton County Justic System agencies and the citizens of Frankfort who maintain a safe atmosphere.
