Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident On I-74 Under Investigation

An early morning three-vehicle crash near Jamestown in Boone County resulted in the death of a woman and two juveniles with four passengers being transported to the hospital for evaluation.

This morning, Feb. 7, just after 6:30 a.m., the Boone County Communications Center reportedly received a report of a vehicle accident on I-74 westbound near the 51.5 mile-marker. Upon arrival, first responders located a Kia Soul and a pickup truck in the ditch on the west side of the roadway as well as a semi-truck with damage to the rear of its trailer in the eastbound lanes of I-74, reports state.

The driver of the Kia Soul, Ashley Morgan, 27, of Iowa, was pronounced deceased at the scene along with two juvenile passengers. One additional passenger from the vehicle was reportedly transported to the hospital with injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Bo Redrowicz, 33, and the passenger, Caleb Morey, were also reportedly transported to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the semi-truck, Steven Pearson, 50, of Illinois was taken to the hospital for evaluation as well, authorities report.

Authorities stated that preliminary findings suggest that the Kia Soul was traveling eastbound on I-74 when it collided with the rear of the semi-truck, which caused the vehicle to cross the median and collide head-on with the pickup truck. The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene to investigate.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident remains under investigation with further updates expected to be released as they become available.
