Plainfield, IN – For the sixth time in the past five days, an Indiana State Police car was struck along the interstates in the Indianapolis District.
Earlier this morning, Trooper Jordan Hall was investigating a roll-over crash on I-70 eastbound near the 60 mile marker, just west of Plainfield. While sitting in his car, another vehicle spun out of control and struck the back of Trooper Hall’s car. Both the driver of the other vehicle, and Trooper Hall were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The ISP Indianapolis District covers Marion, Hancock, Hamilton, Boone, Hendricks, Johnson and Shelby Counties. Since the onset of this snow storm, troopers have worked around the clock responding to countless emergency calls. Below is a snapshot of some of those calls:
530 crashes (69 with injuries)
212 slide offs (vehicle off the road)
6 ISP vehicles struck on the side of the highway
732 motorist assists (mostly vehicles stuck in the snow or stalled)
ISP Indianapolis District Commander, Lt. Josh Watson said. “While most people were seeking shelter from the weather, our troopers were driving straight into it. Through challenging and hazardous conditions and treacherous roads, they answered every call with courage and commitment. I could not be more proud of our team here at the Indianapolis District and the resilience they showed keeping our communities safe through this snow storm. I also want to thank the ISP Motor Carrier Division and a few other troopers not regularly assigned to our district who stepped up to help in incredible ways.”
We continue to see hazardous road conditions, please uses extreme caution if you are driving.
