Pedestrian Struck by Semi in Indy

Troopers from the Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on the south side of Indianapolis Thursday, Indiana State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call at 9:11 p.m. about a man walking in traffic on I-465 near Harding Street. Troopers were dispatched to the area, however before their arrival calls began coming in about a man lying in the roadway appearing to be seriously injured. Trooper Benjamin Byler was on scene within minutes and applied a tourniquet to the injured man. IEMS and IFD personnel arrived on scene and despite life saving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased on scene.

Preliminary investigation determined a man was walking in the westbound lanes of I-465 between Harding Street and East Street when he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer. The driver of that semi returned to the scene immediately and fully cooperated with the investigation. There were no other injuries reported.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and recover the remains of the deceased. This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time.
