NWS Issues Special Weather Statement Of Possible Icing Late Tonight Through Early Saturday Morning

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement that light freezing rain may cause some icing late tonight, Feb. 14 in the region.

The service stated that precipitation is expected to develop across northern parts of central Indiana during the evening before becoming widespread overnight. With surface temperatures below 32 degrees, the precipitation will fall as freezing rain for several hours late tonight and early Saturday morning, the service stated.

The service released that up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible by Saturday morning with the highest amounts along the I-74 corridor in Western Indiana east across locations just north of the Indianapolis metro area.

Slick spots will likely develop on untreated roadways as well as bridges and overpasses. As temperatures rise above freezing Saturday morning, the icing threat will end with precipitation falling as rain.

Following the mixed precipitation, the service is expecting Saturday to be a rainy day with upwards of 1.5 inches of rain falling across the region beginning into the morning through the early evening hours, which could cause flooding of low-lying and poorly drained areas or minor stream and creek flooding.
