Daffodils Emerge at Dorner Park After Fall Planting by 10 Groups and Organizations

The Daffodils planted last November at Dorner Park in Frankfort are now just beginning to emerge.  500 Daffodils were planted on a Saturday in November and now are beginning to emerge to adorn Dorner Park this spring.

Here is the article published in November in Clinton County Daily News when 10 Clinton County groups and organizations got together to plant the Daffodils:

Temperature in the mid 60’s with moist soil but no rain Saturday made for perfect conditions to plant 500 more Daffodils at Dorner Park in Frankfort.  The 10 acre park on the South Side of town straddling Clay Street and bordering Prairie Creek will now explode late February or early March with 500 more yellow Daffodils.

Several Volunteer Organizations joined hands to plant 500 Daffodils at Dorner Park Saturday Morning.

This project was spearheaded by Chuck Tedrick and the Frankfort Lions Club.  The project attracted the help of several groups and organizations.

Helpers from several community organizations lended a hand:

  • Frankfort Lions Club
  • Frankfort High School Crash Club (Community Raising and Starting Heros)
  • Frankfort Spainish Club
  • Frankfort Rotary Club
  • Frankfort Optimist Club
  • DAR Daughters of the American Revolution
  • Psi Iota Xi Sorority
  • Frankfort Garden Club
  • District 41 State Representative Mark Genda
  • Frankfort Parks Department

Frankfort Parks Superintendent Ryan Edgar was at the planting. “I just want to thank the Lions Club, the youth and all the volunteer help for coming out and participating in the project.”

Signage at Dorner Park will come to life in spring with yellow Daffodils thanks to efforts of these Frankfort High School students.

Edgar said this spring the parks department added gravel to smooth out the drive way areas of the park and did some painting.  New pickleball courts constructed at the park last year.

The Daffodils planted today were donated by the Dorner Family.  George Dorner started the park on private land in 1941 when it was farmland.  He began developing the private park and dedicated it to his wife Pearl.  George Dorner willed the land to his daughter who eventually sold it to the city for an undisclosed amount.  A stone marker/monument to the Dorner Family was one of the planting locations around which daffodils were planted today.
