History enthusiasts, families, and outdoor adventurers are invited to step back in time during Pioneer Village Day at Wabash & Erie Canal Park on Saturday, June 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The special event is part of the park’s Canal Season Saturdays and will showcase the Pioneer Village and the artisans who help bring 1850s-era life and historic trades to life. Visitors can explore the village free of charge and enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations designed for all ages.
In addition to touring the Pioneer Village, guests can experience canal boat rides scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., visit the interactive Canal Museum, and tour the restored Reed Case House. Nature lovers can also take part in a narrated nature walk beginning at 2:30 p.m.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the 2 p.m. dedication of the historic 1830 Deer-Crone Cabin, celebrating the newest addition to the park’s growing collection of historic structures. Organizers encourage community members to attend the dedication and help mark this significant milestone for the park.
Tickets for canal boat rides may be purchased online through Friday. After the close of business on Friday, all remaining ticket sales will be available in person only on the day of the event.
Wabash & Erie Canal Park continues to provide visitors with unique opportunities to experience Indiana’s canal-era heritage through interactive exhibits, historic buildings, educational programs, and special events throughout the season.
Organizers hope residents and visitors alike will join them for an afternoon of history, exploration, and family-friendly fun.
