After long discussions over the past few meetings, the Clinton County Commissioners gave their approval Monday morning for a new Dollar General to come to Mulberry on the west side of the town.
“The Dollar General in Mulberry has been hanging out there for a few months waiting for different approvals and that came back to us today,” said Clinton County Commissioners President Jordan Brewer. “All the commitments were met and now they will now be able to move forward.”
Brewer said the majority of people they spoke with was in favor of the project.
“We heard from people who were somewhat against it as well as for it,” said Brewer. “Overall, I would say the majority of people were for it. Really liked the idea of having a grocery because that is the difference here. This is going to be a Dollar General grocery.”
The Rossville Red group made another presentation to the Commissioners about their dislike for a proposed solar farm coming to Rossville.
“I would call him the developer of the project reached out just wanting to know what we had heard after they had the town meeting in Rossville,” said Brewer. “We’ve had more people show up at these meetings on this since I’ve been here.”
Brewer also said he has not received one positive comment on the project.
The Commissioners also gave Clinton County EMS the go-ahead to move into an agreement with the Zoll One program.
“We have cardiac monitors that we’ve purchased in the past that are becoming outdated,” said Brewer. “The options are either to purchase those or we submitted an offer to lease where it’s over a 10-year period but it gets updated to new monitors every five years. Ultimately, we are trying to stay current.”
Brewer added they wanted to make sure the county stays current with technology and how they are doing things.
