The Frankfort Lady Hot Dogs swim team traveled to Zionsville for sectionals on Feb. 1 with multiple swimmers qualifying for the finals on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Folliwing the first day of sectionals, one swimmer was applauded for qualifying for the finals in three events while setting a 3-year-old record within the school. Giselle Figueroa qualified in the 200 Individual Medley while dropping 1.81 seconds in her 100 Butterfly race, ending with a time of 1:14.53. While Figueroa placed 11th in the 100 Butterfly, she was able to beat the 100 Butterfly record.
The team of Maddison Campbell, Krislyn Shipley, Giselle Figueroa and Yazmin Lemus also qualified for the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Alea David, Hadley Gallichan, Annabelle Hall and Jersey Spencer qualified for the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Along with the qualifiers for the finals, Soraya Velencia, Daphne Santos, Layla Mariaca and Hadley Gallichan dropped times during the sectional.
“The girls swam fantastic in all their races, with multiple dropped times and a few who qualified for finals on Saturday,” Richard Sallee, who manages the Hot Dog Network, wrote. “Good job to all the swimmers last night, and good luck with finals on Saturday.”
The 2023-2024 season sectionals at Zionsville consists of Carroll, Clinton Central, Frankfort, Harrison, Lafayette Central Catholic, Lafayette Jefferson, Lebanon, McCutcheon, University, West Lafayette and Zionsville.
The second day of sectionals will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 3 around 9 a.m. with an estimated 1 p.m. start for the finals. The second day will include diving, consolations and finals in the swimming events.
For advancement, the first-place sectional winners in each event qualify for the state finals. As well, any contestant who equals or betters the state time standard in the consolation finals or the championship finals will qualify for the state finals. The next fastest number of contestants in the state that would bring the number of entrants to 32 in each event will also be invited to the state competition, but if a tie exists, the tie shall stand and both swimmers advance to the state championships.
For diving, first through fourth place sectional winners will qualify for the diving regional while first through eighth place regional winners will qualify for the state finals.
