The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 342 is partnering with the local Scouts of America troop and the Rossville Cemetery Association to place Americans flags around the Rossville Cemetery once again this year for Memorial Day.
In a long-standing tradition, the Scouts of America will be taking on the duty of placing flags around the gate of the Rossville Cemetery on Memorial Day in honor of the veterans who have passed, which is a tradition in collaboration with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 342 and the Rossville Cemetery Association.
As the date draws closer in May, the American Legion Auxiliary is seeking community members to verify any veterans they are aware of who have been interred in the cemetery so the scouts and organizations can pay proper respects during the ceremony.
“With a cemetery of 4,000+, it is hard to check every person’s background, but we know that recognizing our veterans is vitally important and are doing our best to create an accurate, up-to-date listing,” Reanna Stover, Auxiliary member, wrote. “Thank you for your assistance in this matter.”
During the ceremony for Memorial Day, the scouts line the gates of Rossville Cemetery with flags in honor of the veterans, saluting after each flag is placed to continue every veteran’s legacy.
