Grandma’s Cookoff has always been a hit for those who like to cook. Saturday’s 14th annual event didn’t disappoint as almost 35 entries in four separate categories brought forth special dishes to be the top chefs in Clinton County.

“It was a wonderful turnout,” said Pat Day, owner of Day and Genda Funeral Home, the site of the event. “I love it every year. It’s always great food. You never know what people are going to make and there’s always dishes that surprise you and things you try going “I don’t know’ about this. You’re going, ‘man, that’s really good.” So. just a wonderful time and doing this again.'”

The four categories are side, soup, desserts and main dishes. Winners were Side — Carol Carter (Cucumber Salad); Soup — Imelda Barria (Shrimp and Fish Soup), Desserts — Norma Disinger (Banana Turtle Tart and Main –Ronda Crews Lucas (Chicken Pot Pie). Each of the winners left with $300 each and play an apron.

Day did say that next year will be a special year.

“We’re excited to celebrate 15 (years),” said Day. “We’ve got a few upgrades and tricks up our sleeves for next year. When you hit those marquis years. you want to celebrate in a special way. We’ve got some fun things for next year.”
