Believe it or not it’s time for kids in Frankfort and Clinton County to get ready to go back to school as five schools in the county will be in session no later than August 9.

Appropriately, the Stuff the Bus promotion, put on by WILO and Kaspar Media, had representatives from all five schools (Frankfort, Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie, Rossville and The Crossing) in front of the Frankfort Walmart Wednesday night in an effort to gather needed school supplies for classrooms in Clinton County.

“It’s crazy how fast the year flies by, but we’re out here right back at it again,” said Clinton Central Superintendent Jeremy Fewell. “It’s great to get the community support out for our students and kids.”

All superintendents echoed Fewell’s thoughts on how well each community support the students.

“Bottom line is it gets the community involved, it gives the opportunity to give back and add it helps the majority of our students who may not have the supplies that don’t have the supplies or the means when they come to school,” said Rossville Superintendent Dr. Jim Hanna. “We try to do the best the best we can, but every little bit helps.”

It also shows how much a community cares.

“The community cares so much for our kids and our school,” said Clinton Prairie Superintendent Scott Miller. “Not just this night, but so many other nights. If they need things and supplies, they really try to help out because we have such a close knit type of community.”

Community Schools of Frankfort Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda said this night helps meet a need for students in the community.

“We’ve got a lot of kids whose parents can’t afford school supplies,” said Rhoda. “So, a night like this when people are kind and giving, it’s hard to believe how important that is for our kids walking into school the first day.”

Another item of importance is the supplies list to make sure students and schools have enough Kleenex on hand because of the onslaught of things like COVID and the yearly cold-and-flu season that hit at once a year.

“I think about our elementary schools kids that come in is we never have enough Kleenex boxes on hand and the supplies they need,” said Miller.”Not that our seventh through 12th graders don’t do the same. It’s those consumable things that can add up.”

The first day for school at all five schools is as follows: The Crossing (July 31), Community Schools of Frankfort (August 3), Clinton Central (August 7), Rossville (August 8) and Clinton Prairie (August 9).
